Ofentse Pitse
Ofentse Pitse, the first black South African woman to own and lead an all-black orchestra, is a pioneering force in the orchestral world. Hailing from Mabopane, Pretoria, she developed her musical passion in the vibrant streets of her hometown. Under the mentorship of leading conductors Thami Zungu and Gerben Grooten, she transitioned from a musician to the conductor and owner of Anchored Sound, a 40-piece orchestra and 25-strong choir. A firm advocate for inclusivity, Pitse aims to empower women in male-dominated spaces. Her global recognition soared when she orchestrated Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” for a Netflix project celebrating the 20th anniversary of the song, featuring an all-women ensemble. Simultaneously, she reimagined 2Face’s “African Queen” for a Netflix Africa promo, showcasing her versatile musical prowess.
